During our two and a half decades in San Diego, one thing that has always been central to our gatherings is a love of food. We often joke that we come from ”Eaters” on both sides of the family. As 2020 took its turns, we began making smoked meats and BBQ meals for families in our neighborhood and delivering them to friends and family during the California lockdowns. As the months went on, our Oaksteak BBQ sauce recipes were perfected, and our final sauces were requested around town. This led to launching our secret family recipes. How ever you enjoy it, enjoy it with friends!
The name Oaksteak comes from our then 3-year-old son who named a spider that lived in our stairwell window. He insisted we let the spider live out its days there free from harm. We told him if we were going to keep the spider, then he needed a name. He thought for a moment and blurted out, “Let’s call him Oaksteak”! So, there he stayed, unbothered, living his best and insistent life. Oaksteak the spider was an unlikely pet who became family. If you look closely at each of our bottles, you might be able to find a couple little spiders crawling around.
